52 Profiles

My name is Kyle Steed. I love to draw.

In 2010 I illustrated 52 different peoples profiles. What you see here is the collection of that work.

My sincerest gratitude to everyone who made this project possible. Thank you for your support.

About the Project

I have always been fascinated by people. I am especially drawn to the complexities of the face. I can remember the solid black silhouette profiles hanging in my grandparents house when I was a kid. As I grew as an artist the more I appreciated the works of painters like Da Vinci, Rockwell and Caravaggio. There is something about capturing the emotion of a person in a portrait that is eternal.

More than anything it makes me appreciate and stand in awe of the way God created us all a little different. From a slight angle in the nose to the way our jaw bones are formed. And I think that’s what makes me want to draw all these people. Of course my style isn’t like that of the greats, it’s my own unique perspective. All my illustrations are done using pen in one sitting. If I feel like I haven’t achieved my very best then I start all over. There is no pencil sketching involved. I use the person’s image that they send me and draw from that.

Update: On January 29, 2011 I will be hosting what I like to call the “Art Show Extravaganza” at Crooked Tree Coffee House here in Dallas, Texas. There will be wine, live music and a bunch of awesome people. If you’re available to make it I would love to see you there. And if you have a profile drawing then you will be getting an invitation in the mail.
